A MODEL OF THE “DEVELOPMENTAL SELF”©

Decisions, a form of thought, are quantum energetic episodes – which can be conscious, like staying patient, calm and loving even when upset, or subconscious, like jumping out of the way of a moving car, yelling when someone says something we don’t like, or not going on a job interview we’re afraid of not getting.

The Continuum Theory ™ of Human Development

The Continuum Theory™ posits a real, conceived and birthed, biological, quantum energetic part of us called Self.

Self is developmental and a fully integrated part of the spectrum of energy we now call body/brain – it is the invisible part – as of yet – of this energy spectrum – of which body/brain are the visible components. (3)

Self begins its growth, education and training along with body/brain at birth. I further hypothesized that this Self, “if real”, would have to be defined in detail and functionally, similar to the way we have defined the body and are now doing in greater and greater detail with the brain. (Gazzaniga, 2009) Both the body and brain have certain ‘components’ that need to grow. The body has a skeletal system, a circulatory and nervous system, organs, muscles, and skin, which all need nourishment and rest in order to grow. Of this group the muscles are those, which after the growth of the body to its fullest, allow us to train the body and develop its potential so we can use it maximally. The muscles can be trained for balance, walking and running, dexterity, coordination, endurance, speed, lifting, and flexibility. After the optimal growth of muscles only training can develop them to their full potential and thereby, the body’s use maximally. Similarly, the brain has lobes, grey cells, nerves, and synapses, which need nourishment and rest to grow. It has the capacity for differentiating, for learning languages, for memorizing facts, for calculating, and for reasoning. After the brain completes its growth only through training will we realize its full potential and thereby its use maximally. The body’s and brain’s cycle of growth start at birth, each year greater and greater potential is reached, which becomes available for education and training – growth stops between 16-20 after which their full potential is available for education and training. These two aspects of a human being, being perfectly visible and accessible receive a great deal of attention with science continually perfecting the kind and amount of nourishment and education and training they should receive for maximizing their potential. (4)

As mentioned, Self’s cycle of growth also starts at birth. Each year greater and greater potential is reached, which becomes available for education and training. Since Self is not visible (yet) (5) it
